How We Treat Dental Emergencies

Initial Call: The first thing you should do in any emergency is give us a call. Tell us about your situation, and we’ll let you know exactly what to do next, whether this involves first aid, coming to see us right away, or scheduling an appointment when it suits you best.

Emergency Exam: When you arrive, we’ll perform a quick but detailed exam that will help us determine the exact cause and scope of the emergency.

Treatment Presentation: We’ll go over our findings, discuss treatment options (as well as their associated costs), and put together a plan that works for you.

Provide Relief: Once the patient is out of pain, we’ll make any repairs we can. While we’re able to accomplish a lot in a single visit, we may schedule a follow-up if more treatment is needed to ensure the emergency won’t end up causing you more trouble later.

The Most Common Dental Emergencies

These are the problems we treat all the time that typically constitute an emergency. However, even if your issue doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories, we still encourage you to give us a call. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your teeth!

Understanding the Cost of Dental Emergencies

Unlike other dental offices, we don’t use emergencies as an excuse to upcharge at every opportunity. We’ll be transparent about the cost of emergency dental treatment (with fees that won’t be affected by the situation), and we’ll also go over how you can use insurance, our in-house coverage, or low-to-no-interest financing to make things more affordable. Bear in mind that because dental emergencies can vary quite a bit, the cost of treatment will be different from patient to patient.

Keys to Preventing Dental Emergencies

While we can treat any type of dental emergency, you’d probably prefer to avoid them altogether, right? Thankfully, doing that is pretty straightforward…

  • Brush and floss daily to prevent cavities (and toothaches!)
  • See us at least twice a year so we can spot problems early
  • Chew carefully when eating really hard or sticky foods
  • Wear a mouthguard whenever you play sports (even non-contact ones)
  • Don’t use your teeth to open packages or bottles
