Get to Know Dr. Adriana Zaharie
Dr. Adriana Zaharie (or “Dr. Z” as her patients and team call her) has always loved doing work that has a positive impact on others. No matter how much effort something requires, if it ends up making someone’s life better, then it was worth it! This innate sensibility can be seen in how she interacts with her patients and provides care, and she’s eager to do whatever it takes to give you the bright, strong, and attractive smile you deserve.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
As a small child, Dr. Z was absolutely fascinated with smiles and teeth, so in her mind, she has always wanted to be a dentist! What started as a childhood interest eventually turned into a lifelong passion that saw her leave her native Colombia so she could learn how to provide the highest quality dentistry possible.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Z received her master’s degree in biology in 1990 and her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Antioquia in 1995. She went on to earn a second Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Advanced Standing Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2004. While there, she was awarded “The Essay of the Year” by the American Society of Dental Anesthesia. Throughout her education, she taught herself English by reading technical dental materials in both Spanish and English.
Today, Dr. Z continues to attend some of the most advanced post-doctoral study programs available, including the Periodontist Study Club and Viva Dental Seminars. This allows her to provide a comprehensive and advanced approach to your dental care that is uncommon in today’s rushed world.
All told, Dr. Z has over 20 years of experience practicing dentistry in the United States, treating patients of all ages, from six months old to great grandparents! In the last decade or so, she has dedicated a lot of her focus to clear aligners and cosmetic dentistry to help patients achieve the look they desire.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
At home, Dr. Z is happily married with four children. To relax, you’ll often find her reading spiritual books, walking their dog, going to the movies, and planning the family’s next big trip.
